Abstract:

In this paper, an analytical investigation of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns is presented. Though CFST columns have different section types (for example, single-tube form, dumbbell form and lattice form), thev have some common characteristics on the static behavior. Following this idea, a uniform methodology for calculating the ultimate load-carrying capacity of CFST columns is proposed on the basis of analysis of calculation methods of domestic and international design criteria. Test verifications of the new calculation method on CFST single tube columns, dumbbell shaped columns and laced columns are presented respectively, and the results indicated that the calculated values of ultimate loads using this new method agree well with the test values.
