Abstract:
In order to understand the mechanism of energy transfer in an axially moving string with a tensioner and to develop a control strategy for the system, transverse vibration control of an axially moving string is investigated based on the energy transfer principle of traveling waves. The energy of the system is minimized via choosing the optimal control coefficient, determined by maximizing the total energy dissipation. Hence the transverse vibration of the string is minimized as well. The finite difference method is employed to solve the governing equation numerically. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the control approach.
