Abstract:

The development of concrete arch bridge is limited by its heavy self-weight and the difficult erection, so there are few concrete arch bridges built in recent years. This paper presents an innovative conception on concrete arch bridge design, in which corrugated steel web is used to substitute the concrete web in arch ring. Compared with concrete arch bridge, the arch self-weight can be lightened, and the construction can be simplified, moreover, it makes the larger span concrete arch bridge possible. Taking the built Chongqing Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge with a clear span of 420 m and the Ningde Lingdou Bridge with clear span of 160 m under construction as prototype, two trail designs of concrete arch bridge with corrugated steel webs are carried out. The construction methods of embedded falsework method and cantilever method are discussed in the trial designs. Analysis results show that the self-weight of the arch ring is reduced by about 30% in the trial design. It proves that the trial design is feasible for it will lead to the lower requirements for the foundation and substructure, the construction procedure will be greatly simplified and construction time will be saved.
