Abstract:
Creep of core concrete in concrete filled steel tube (CFST) has its special characteristics. Research results about creep of CFST members and the calculation method in design of CFST arch bridge show that creep will cause obviously increasing of deflection of arch rib and stress distribution between steel tube and core concrete. Therefore, creep problem should be taken into account in design of a CFST arch bridge. Compared with reinforced concrete arch bridge, initial creep value in a CFST arch bridge is relatively small and its tested value is small than the estimated one by the design code method for the reinforced concrete bridge. However the creep of CFST arch will increase in a longer time than that of the reinforced concrete one, so it will give out an under estimated results if only the initial creep is considered in the design. In future, the creep calculation model, the affection of the stress distribution of steel tube and concrete to the ultimate load carrying capacity of arch and its influence to rigidity of arch rib (to deflection and stability) should need further studies.
