Mechanical and acoustic characteristics of high temperature limestone with water cooling treatment

Abstract:

The axial direction compression and acoustic wave tests were carried out for different high temperature limestones with water cooling treatment. Both the changes of superficial morphology and mechanical properties and the relationship between the mechanical and acoustic characteristics were studied and analyzed. The results show that with the increase of temperature, the appearance color of the water cooling limestone fades gradually. When the temperature reaches 700, the appearance color of the water cooling limestone changes to hoar. The peak stress has a decreasing trend on the whole. When the temperature changes from room temperature to 500, the peak strain gradually increases, and the elastic and deformation modulus gradually reduces. When the temperature is more than 500, the peak strain decreases first and then increases, and the elastic and deformation modulus increase firstly and then decrease. With the increase of temperature, the relationships among the peak stress and the wave velocity, the elastic modulus and the wave velocity demonstrate good correlations. © 2016, Central South University Press.
