Abstract:

To overcome the disadvantage of bamboo reinforcement in concrete members, such as poor durability, poor bond performance with concrete and large strength discreteness, two new modification methods are proposed in this paper. The experimental researches on the mechanical property of bamboo reinforced concrete columns under monotonic eccentric loads are conducted, and the influence of different modification methods, bamboo reinforcement ratio, and eccentricity are studied. The results show that the failure modes of bamboo reinforced concrete columns under eccentric load are brittle failure, and the crushing of concrete is a relatively safe failure mode. Both of the two new modification methods can improve greatly the mechanical property of bamboo reinforced concrete columns, the modified bamboo reinforcement can work together with concrete, and its deformation can meet the requirement of plane section assumption. © 2016, The Editorial Board of Journal of Basic Science and Engineering.
