Abstract:
Lignin-a low-cost and abundant material from pulp and paper industries, can be adopted as a promising raw stuff to prepare a novel amphoteric granular lignin adsorbent (AGLA) for the removal and recovery of heavy metals. The preparation procedures were optimized. And, some characteristics of AGLA were also studied. It can be concluded that the ideal cross-linked granular lignin beads can be prepared by reacting 100 ml 45% of magnesium lignin sulfonate aqueous solution with 15 g HCl solution and 25 g formaldehyde solution at 60 similar to 90 degreesC for 1.6 h at the continuous stirring speed of 150 similar to 200 r/min. The quaternarization reaction should be carried out under the conditions of 40 g CHPTMA, 3 h and 70 degreesC by using 10 mL 20% NaOH solution as catalyst to obtain the AGLA with satisfactory properties. The cation exchange capacity and anion-exchange capacity of the AGLA obtained are 1.26 and 0.65 mmol/g, respectively.
