Abstract:
This paper presents an experimental study on flexural bearing capacity of a damaged two-span reinforced concrete (RC) beam strengthened with one layer carbon-fiber reinforced-polymer (CFRP) sheets bonded with an inorganic adhesive. The beam was subjected to a mid-span point flexural test under load control. The flexural strength, ultimate states and load-deflection curve at mid-span of test beam were obtained. The failure mode is that yielding of the tensile longitudinal steel bars followed by CFRP sheets broken in tension. The plane-section assumption is applicable. The experimental results show that it is feasible to strengthen RC beams with CFRP sheets bonded with the inorganic resin. Practical calculation method of the flexural behavior of damaged RC continuous beams strengthened with the inorganic matrix CFRP sheets is established, which is good agreement with experimental results with reasonable reliability.
