Abstract:
A kind of glass ceramics of the CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system was successfully synthesized by using goldmine tailings as raw materials. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) was used to determine the nucleation and crystallization temperatures. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine the crystal structure and microscopic structure. It was found that the kind, microstructures and distribution of crystalline phases in glass-ceramics can be controlled by alerting the nucleation agents. Needle-like or column diopside microcrystals with the size of 2 similar to 5 mu m were formed when 3% Cr2O3 was added, while round diopside with size of 0.2 similar to 0.4 mu m presented as main crystal and Ca-Fe diopside grains as sub-main phase when 2% Cr2O3 and 2% TiO2 composites were both existed.
