Abstract：

An　unexpected　coupling　reaction　of　arene　carboxylic　acid　with　nitroethane　via　a　combination　of　decarboxylation　and　dehydrogenation　is　described.　The　method　provides　exclusively　(E)-beta-nitrostyrenes.
